I’m riding a high tonight.
I met a lawyer who plays bass professionally in a band. We’re into the same stuff — musically and otherwise — and I’m kind of ridiculously happy right now. Will it all fall apart someday? Of course. But today I’m excited.
Our first date was supposed to be Saturday, but we decided we couldn’t wait to meet.
He’s cool in a nerdy way and I actually enjoy talking to him — like really enjoy it. I’m supposed to go see his band play this weekend, and we started talking about guitar building. He might want me to make him a custom bass, and he knows people who’d be interested in the others once I finish them. That part honestly made me giddy.
He also told me I should get a booth at First Friday in the Arts District.
Now I have a new problem: I have no idea what to charge for the guitars.
I’m working on another project too — I bought a kids’ three-piece drum set and I’m going to try to sculpt it into a wall sculpture of a woman's body. We’ll see how that goes.
Anyway I’ve got the warm fuzzies and a suspiciously good feeling about this guy, which statistically means he’ll probably murder me and scatter my remains across state lines, but for now my face is glowing and my heart’s doing the stupid pitter-pat thing.
Also: he has tattoos, motorcycle, and he liked my tramp stamp. He has something similar on his arm.
The bodybuilder stood me up on Valentine’s Day because he got a cold. The roadie backup got the same damn cold. So I met the rock-and-roll attorney yesterday on a dating site and now I’m weirdly happy about it.
I know I need to be cautious, but the whole “I got someone disbarred” thing didn’t scare him off — he joked about it. I didn’t even have to explain the story. He started talking about maybe running for judge maybe in the next election. I mentioned Wolfson running unopposed and told him what happened between me and Wolfson. He laughed.
I really like this guy.
I’m going to try not to wait for the other shoe to drop.
Oh — and he has a pool.
So at minimum I’m emotionally invested through summer.
